Human trafficking is a human rights violation that involves the practice of holding another person in compelled service by force, fraud, or coercion. Traffickers profit from this practice by controlling their victims and exploiting them for labor and/or sex. (Human Right first)
Human trafficking is a global crisis and is often a misunderstood phenomenon. Everyone needs to take this crisis seriously and notice the danger the victims are in.
ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING
According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, "Human trafficking is the business of stealing freedom for profit. Traffickers trick, defraud or physically force victims into providing commercial sex. Some traffickers lie, assault, threaten or manipulate the victims into working under inhumane, illegal or otherwise unacceptable conditions."
Three types of human trafficking are sex, labor, and organ trafficking.
Participants had been trafficked for sexual exploitation (29%), domestic servitude (29.3%), and labor exploitation (40.4%). (Human Trafficking and Health: A Survey of Male and Females Survivors in England)
Sixty-six percent of women reported forced sex during trafficking, including 95% of those trafficked for sexual exploitation and 54% of those trafficked for domestic servitude. (Human Trafficking and Health: A Survey of Male and Females Survivors in England)
